Sure, we will most definitely be getting some more special edition Switch consoles with themed docks here and there, as the Splatoon 3 one is now here and the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is coming in November.Īs we approach the holiday season, though, imagine what the sales for the Nintendo Switch would look like against the competition if Nintendo threw out various color schemes to mix the game up. I personally vote for more colors, as that seems to be the simplest and most possible option, but I also think a special dock with removable faceplates would be the best. I honestly don’t care how Nintendo does it, but we do desperately need some more options when it comes to the Switch dock.

Faceplates are an excellent option! If we aren’t going to get a plethora of color schemes and special edition Switches, then why not give the consumer the ability to buy a customizable dock and then purchase from a lineup of faceplates to adorn your new Switch dock? This reason alone saw low sales in both the handheld and the faceplates, which makes me believe that Nintendo thinks that was a failed approach. Unfortunately, though, the New Nintendo 3DS was a flop, because it released towards the end of the handheld’s life and did not have a whole lot going for it in regards to exclusive gaming. The New Nintendo 3DS had something special with the faceplate option, because it just gave us the ability to change the look of our New 3DS whenever we wanted to.

I understand that neither the original dock or the OLED dock are designed for this, but I think this would be the most practical and attractive approach. However, the pitch I want to make the most is for Nintendo to give the Switch dock the option to receive faceplates. This makes me wonder, why hasn’t Nintendo given us more color options? Now that we are officially moved on to the Switch OLED, why not start selling different colored Switch OLED docks? Could you imagine seeing the variety at the store? White, Black, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, etc? That would be incredible! I know fans long for special editions of their favorite games (Honestly, Nintendo, where was my Metroid Dread themed console?!), but solid colors are also very attractive and more variety only means more sales for Nintendo. I mean, c’mon, just look at the Mario Red & Blue Special Edition and tell me you wouldn’t like more solid color options? Sure, the original Switch and the OLED have a decent amount of special edition consoles, but in regards to the standard Switch dock, we only have the black for the original and the white for the OLED. However, it was the brilliant idea of the New Nintendo 3DS that brought us customizable faceplates, allowing us to take our preferred New 3DS color and fit it with faceplates of colors, characters, game themes, and so much more.Ĭompare that to the Nintendo Switch currently, and the hybrid console is seriously lacking. The Nintendo 3DS alone had 30 different options in regards to color variations and special editions that fans could purchase. Nintendo knew this with their previous handheld systems, and looking at the massive amount of options for the DS and 3DS is insane.

When it comes to portable consoles, which the Nintendo Switch absolutely is one, variety is a blessing to the consumer. Both portable consoles had many options, and the sheer amount of different colors for each model allowed for the two handhelds to accessorize with the individual who purchased them. The Nintendo DS had the original, the DS Lite, the DSi, and the DSi XL, and the Nintendo 3DS had its original model, the 2DS, the 3DS XL, the New 3DS, the New 3DS XL, and the New 2DS XL. One thing that made the Nintendo DS and 3DS so attractive was the wide variety of color schemes, special editions, different versions, and so much more.
